What is Grammarly?
Grammarly’s paid tier is now called Grammarly Pro (renamed from Premium). The 2026 version bundles the previous Premium features with team features that used to require Business. AI prompt allowance was doubled from 1,000 to 2,000 per month. Generative AI prompts work in Gmail, Google Docs, LinkedIn, and most text areas — not just inside Grammarly.
Pricing (April 2026)
- Free: Basic grammar, spelling, punctuation checking across all apps. Catches 80% of common errors.
- Pro — $12/month (annual), $20/month (quarterly), or $30/month (monthly). Adds advanced grammar, clarity rewrites, tone suggestions, citations, plagiarism checker, and 2,000 generative AI prompts/month.
- Enterprise — custom pricing: Replaced the old Business plan. For teams larger than 149 members.
Grammarly Pro can be used for up to 149 members on a single plan.
Who Grammarly Is For
Anyone whose job involves email — which is most knowledge workers. Writers, ESL speakers, students, professionals communicating with clients.
What We Love: The Pros
- Runs automatically in Gmail, Docs, LinkedIn, social apps — you don’t open anything
- Free tier alone catches most real errors
- Pro’s tone detector genuinely prevents awkward emails
- 2,000 AI prompts/month is generous (doubled from 2025)
- Plagiarism checker useful for students and researchers
- Works on any device including mobile keyboards
The Honest Cons
- Real-time checking can feel intrusive for creative writing
- Sometimes over-corrects (insists on removing ‘just’ or ‘really’)
- Pro’s $30/month monthly rate is steep — annual billing ($12) is the real deal
Our Verdict
The free tier of Grammarly is worth installing for almost everyone. For $12/month annual (the tier to pay for), Pro’s tone detector and AI rewrites pay for themselves the first time they prevent a misread email. The monthly $30 rate is harder to justify — pay annually.
